Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has called on Nigerians at all levels to embrace a form of democracy that creates prosperity, rather than the one that makes the people groan in poverty, backwardness and insecurity.

The former president made the call, during the week, while speaking at the inauguration of the reconstructed 34.85km Oyo-Iseyin road in Oyo State.

The former president emphasised that a form of democracy that nurtures poverty, insecurity and unemployment, and does not allow the people enjoy the dividend of democracy must be thrown away.

Speaking on the theme of the occasion, Obasanjo urged Oyo State to invest in agriculture for food sustainability, saying the state must focus on the cultivation of some certain crops, such as cassava, for which it was known, that stands them out among other states across the nation.

Recall that Gov Makinde’s determination to reconstruct the road was for easy transport connectivity for farmers bringing farm products from the rural areas.

Earlier in his address, the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, had revealed that the construction of the road and other road projects in the state is in line with his administration’s plan to connect all the five zones in the state as well as curb rural-urban migration.

He revealed that his administration would subsequently complete other road projects in the state, including all internal roads across the state, to give room for effective inter-connectivity for food supply./SHARE THIS
