Three abducted Chibok girls who escaped from Boko Haram captivity have bagged degrees from Atiku Abubakar-owned American University of Nigeria (AUN).

They were among 189 students who officially graduated with first degrees on Saturday, May 18, 2024.

Recall that hundreds of girls who were abducted from Chibok in 2014, while a great number remain in captivity, many have been lucky to escape and lead better lives.
In his remarks during the 15th commencement ceremony held yesterday in Yola, President of the University, Dwayne Frazier, while charging the students to uphold the tenets of the institution, said, “AUN is a developing university that prepares students on how to face the new challenges.”
“I have no doubt that you will excel because you have all shown resilience, determination, and commitment. These qualities will propagate you for the best even as you contribute to the development of the country.”
In his message, the guest speaker at the 15th commencement ceremony, Professor Mike Ozekhome (SAN), spoke on the role of universities in creating impact on the world and noted that AUN has proven that it can impact the world positively.
“With the entrepreneurship lectures and training you have received here at AUN, you can create jobs for yourselves.”
The 2023/2024 section had 8 students awarded PhD, 10 students with MSc, and 189 students awarded BSc degrees, while the guest speaker, Professor Mike Ozekhome, was honoured with a Doctor of Letters degree in recognition of his work in promoting peace, human rights, rule of law, development, democracy, and good governance in Nigeria.
The Chibok girls are among the about 30 internally displaced girls who were enrolled in AUN from the basic stage and are the second set to graduates from the university in the last three years.
In July 2021, Mary Katambi, one of the Chibok girls who escaped graduated from the AUN with an accounting degree.
Earlier, Joy Bishara and Lydia Pogu, ex-students of GGSS Chibok who also escaped from Boko Haram graduated from Southeastern University in the United States.{agency}/PLEASE SHARE
