Anambra Governor Chukwuma Soludo has approved N2 million for the couple who gave birth to a set of quintuplets.
Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, disclosed this on Monday in her office in Awka.
She said the token, currently being processed was for the wellbeing of the quintuplets, three males and two females.
She added that the support would be sent to the family immediately after the process was done.
The couple, Mr. Tochukwu Amaechi, an Onitsha-based businessman and his wife, Mrs. Chidinma Amaechi, were blessed with a set of quintuplets at Life International Hospital, in Awka, on March 29, 2023.
The State Online story earlier told on the couple began thus: When Chidinma got married to her heart throb, Mr. Tochukwu Amaechi, a petty trader, nearly a decade ago, she didn’t know the issue of childlessness will beckon, at any time, especially bearing in mind her very tender age of 19 then. But nine years after mutual co-habitation, Chidinma’s home was still bereft of babies’ cries to make her joy full.
This prompted both man and wife to embark vigorously on ceaseless supplication to God for a divine intervention. And as fate would have it, Chidinma was confirmed pregnant before the middle of last year.
Then came another issue. A scan discovered that she was carrying not a baby, two, or even three, but five! Her ante-natal experience was heralded with what looks like beholding an overloaded cart being pushed forth.
When the 28-year-old young lady who completed her national youth service programme just last July, finally put to bed at Life International Hospital, in Awka, Anambra State, Thursday, it was by Caesarian session and the miracle babies – three boys and two girls, had to be incubated for, at least one month, at the intensive care unit of the medical facility.
Mrs Ebele Oranekwu, the nursing mother’s elder sister, who spoke with journalists at the hospital, disclosed that the bill for the incubators alone is N250,000 per day, adding that the babies were expected to be there for about 30 days.
She said, “The bill amounted to about N7.5 million aside other huge bills already accumulated in the past two months of managing the delicate pregnancy at the hospital.
“We’re therefore calling on philanthropists, government and non-governmental organisations to come to our aid to enable us offset the huge medical bills, so we can reap the full benefits of God’s blessings upon our family.”
One of the caregivers who prefered anonymity, assured that the babies and their mother were responding very well to treatment and only needed financial help.

With Gov Soludo’s contribution of 2m, which his Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, said is a token for upkeep of the quintuplets, the couple is still expectant that more will come.
