President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has, at last, opened up on why he removed the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.

According to him, Emefiele’s policies at the apex bank was so rotten that the nation’s financial system started gasping for breath, even as he was trying to crash the economy like a troubled airplane.
“To say the least, he was running a voodoo and rotten financial system capable crashing the nation’s economy like a troubled airplane,” he fumed.

He said things became so bad that many Nigerians abroad were unable to send money to their poor relatives at home because of the multiple exchange rates, besides a situation where Naira exchanged for Naira at cut-throat rate, saying all that have become things of the past.

Speaking during an interactive session with Nigerians resident in France and neighbouring European countries on the sidelines of the New Global Financing Pact Summit in the French capital, Paris, Tinubu said: “Then the financial system was rotten. Few people were making bags of our money and then you yourself, you stopped sending money home to your poor parents and relatives. Several windows existed… but that is gone now, it’s gone.
“The man is in the hands of authorities, something is being done about that, they will sort themselves out.”

The State Online reports that the Department of State Services (DSS) had pleaded with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court not to grant bail to Emefiele who has been in detention since his suspension, saying he would definitely flee the country if granted temporary freedom, judging by its credible intelligence.
Joined in the plea was the Attorney General of the Federation (OAGF), who defended the continued detention of Emefiele, describing him as a “flight risk.”
They stated these in separate counter-affidavits filed in a fundamental rights enforcement suit by the suspended and detained CBN boss.
While the OAGF argued that Emefiele’s life was not in danger to warrant him being granted bail, the DSS warned that he could interfere with its investigations if released, judging from the enormity of illegally-acquired resources at his disposal.(with additional report from the agency)/SHARE THIS
