The Supreme Court of Nigeria has fixed December 15, 2023 for final judgment in the appeals filed by the Federal Government and the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The court chose the date on Thursday after lawyer to the Fed Govt, Tijani Gazali (SAN) and counsel to Kanu, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) made final submissions.
The Federal Government wants the court to set aside an earlier judgment by the Court of Appeal, which quashed the treasonable felony charge against Kanu and ordered his release on the grounds that he was unlawfully brought back to the country after he jumped bail.
Kanu, on his part, wants the court to allow the judgment of the Court and set aside the later order by the stayed execution of the judgment.
The State Online recalls that Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in detention since his unlawful rendition from Kenya, has been in detention ever since June, sequel to which the Court of Appeal freed him of all charges and asked him to go in peace. But the Federal Government wouldn’t want to hear any of that. /SHARE THIS
