The National Chairman of the Peoples Democric Party (PDP), Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, has been suspended by the party.
The suspension of Dr. Ayu was effected by the Ward Executive of the party in Igyorov Ward of Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State.
Addressing journalists, Sunday, on behalf of Kashi Philip, the Ward Chairman, the Ward Secretary, Mr. Vangeryina Dooyum, explained that Ayu’s suspension came following repeated anti-party activities, in addition to not paying his annual dues as enshrined by the party’s constitution.
They also alleged that the PDP chieftain did not vote during the governorship and state assembly elections held on the 18th of March, 2023.
Twelve out of the 17 exco members signed the documents endorsing his suspension.
According to them, most of Ayu’s closest allies worked for the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) which resulted in the abysmal performance of the PDP in Igyorov Ward.
The ward chairman of Igyorov, Kashi Philip, also signed the letter alongside the exco.
It was, however, understood that Ayu’s suspension was an aggravated outcome of abysmal performance of PDP in the just-concluded general elections, particularly the Benue gubernatiorial poll which was lost to an APC candidate of a Catholic priest.(agency)/SHARE THIS
