The Director General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON ) Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace, has expressed the desire of the radio behemoth to partner with Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to enlighten Nigerians on anti corruption war in the country.
Ndace said VON is ready to deploy its terrestrial and digital platforms to educate and sensitise Nigerians and the world in eight local and international languages on anti-corruption crusade of ICPC.
The DG stated this, Wednesday, when led management staff of VON on a courtesy call on the chairman of ICPC Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, (SAN), at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
The VON is committed to amplifying the public education and enlightenment campaign of ICPC in the fight against corruption.
According to him: “The ICPC is not just focused on arrest, they are also involved in sensitising people on the dangers of corruption. The perception of people about ICPC also matters. It is important people know that they are not just focused on arrest but that they are also involved in prevention of corruption by sensitizing people against corruption practices. People need to know these efforts .
“People also need to know the dangers of corruption so that they don’t celebrate those who are caught in the act of corruption because of certain variables and diversities of our nation.
“So it is important that these stories are told first about what ICPC is doing in our local languages so that people will be aware.”
Ndace said in the age of noise, fake news, misinformation and disinformation no institution should be tentative in telling its own story.
“The era of being tentative in telling your stories is over. It is not enough to work, you must let the people know the good work that you are doing and the only way to do it is to leverage on the media.
“I want you to see VON as one platform that you can use to amplify what you are doing in ICPC. See us as partners that is willing to collaborate by offering you all our platforms to tell all the good works that you are doing.
“We want to support you in all that you are doing so that you can consolidate because we all know the focus of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through the Renewed Hope Agenda. “
Speaking further, he said to position Nigeria for foreign direct investments, we need to create the right public perception about our country.
“Doing that requires that we are able to create positive narrative about our nation not just the negatives,” he said.
In his remarks, the ICPC chairman emphasized the need to take anti corruption campaign to Nigerians especially those in rural areas in local languages.
“One of our mandates in ICPC is public education and enlightenment and your platform is veritable in that regard.
“I have always emphasis that we need to reach our people in local languages. Our people need to know what we do, we should not rely in talking to our people foreign language because we need to talk them in a language that they understand,” he said./PLEASE SHARE
