A former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has said he will not attend the inauguration and swearing-in ceremony of Bola Tinubu, the president-elect.
The PDP chieftain stated this during an interview with Arise TV on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, when asked if he would oblige and show up at the inauguration of Bola Tinubu if the Supreme Court sustains the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC’s declaration of Tinubu, as the winner of the election.
George said he is not going to attend not because he hates Tinubu as a person but because he (Bode) stands for the truth and also for the fact that he is not a member of the APC.
“As a civilised and indefatigable Nigerian who has been trained by this nation both in the military, it’s not about Bode George, the question is, will the country be happy?
“Well, when they (the Supreme Court) deliver the judgement, we’ll read it and our lawyers will interpret it for us. But to say that I’ll now physically carry myself to the swearing-in, when it’s not even my party, for the celebration of what?
“I pray that God will work on their (Supreme Court judges)’s minds because prayer is more powerful than ordinary human power. As a Christian, we must say the truth… It’s only the truth that’ll set you free. That’s what God wants us to do.
“I want to appear there on the day of resurrection. I want to be able to stand up to my creator. If they invite me, I won’t go because it’s not my party. I don’t hate Bola. He’s not my enemy but we’re talking about issues that affect our nation.”
Also, answering question of when he would leave the country after Tinubu has ‘won’ the election against his prediction, he said he would wait for the presidential election petition tribunal to make a judgment on the election outcome before he could decide to leave the country.
Recall that Geoege had vowed to relocate to a foreign country, specifically Togo, if Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, won the presidential election.
Following the declaration of Tinubu as the president-elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, George had been continuously pressed by Nigerians to disclose when he would actualize his vow to leave the country.
However, he said he was going to wait on the judiciary to make decision on the outcome of the election.
George said, “I am almost eighty years old, I can decide to live the rest of my life in peace. Remember, I was in the Navy, I have been in almost all parts of the world, and I can still decide to go back to any place and live my life in peace; a place where water, electricity, security and food would be available; that is all I need for my children and grandchildren to be well.
“All I need to do very soon is to quit and get out of partisan politics because all of my 25 years, I have been struggling, fighting, trying to make this country work.
“When I will go I will decide, that’s my choice,” he further bellowed./SHARE THIS
