Former Kano State governor Abdullahi Ganduje, and other bigwigs in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) might lose out as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly set to use security and corruption allegations to decide his ministers.

Tinubu who was sworn in on May 29, 2023, has 60 days to produce his ministers in accordance with the amended law.

The president, in his bid to meet the deadline as today (Sunday) which makes it 48 days since he assumed office, has already sent some names to security agencies for screening ahead of the submission of the ministerial list to the Senate before Thursday, July 27, 2023.
Lawmakers in the Red Chamber were scheduled to proceed on a long recess on July 27, but the non-submission of the ministerial nominees may delay their vacation.
It was gathered that the President had forwarded the names of some individuals to security agencies for clearance, but top sources said their clearance might not be an indication that they would make the list when the nominees are eventually presented to the Senate for screening.
According to PUNCH, the President was said to have been inundated with the names of politicians, associates, party bigwigs, professionals, and others, who showed interest to be part of his government.
Among those who are jostling for the ministerial slots are former governors, particularly those whose tenure ended on May 29, traditional rulers, industry captains, and those in the diaspora, but rather than compiling the list, the president was sending their names to the DSS and EFCC for scrutiny.
A source said: “So, the President, instead of outright rejection, will use the reports to check them. And if they are adamant on serving, I think there are senators from such individuals’ states that will raise objections to their clearance on the floor of the Senate.”
It is said that the former governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje who has made the State House his unofficial home since leaving office as governor, might be among those whose nomination will be rejected due to his dollar video bribe allegation currently being investigated by the Kano State Anti-graft Agency.
The State Online reports that APC has affirmed its inclination to corruption as a way of life, as Kano chairman of the party recently asked Ganduje not to honour the state’s anti-corruption agency when invited to clear his name on messy bribery and corruption allegation, especially on the dollar video saga.
Similarly, the former Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, might also be knocked out for the N70bn fraud allegation against him by the EFCC.
It was gathered that Tinubu is doing this so that opposition parties like the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and others can get slots in the ministerial position.
