Former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, is to remain in prison till January 2024…over unfulfilled bail conditions.

 has yet to meet his bail conditions five days after he was granted bail by a Federal High Court in Abuja.

Emefiele’s lawyer, Mr Mathew Burkaa, told the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday at the resumed hearing that he is yet to meet his bail conditions.

Emefiele is facing a six-count amended charge bordering on alleged procurement fraud to the tune of N1.6 billion.

Emefiele pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail on Friday, November 17, to the tune of N300 million with two sureties in the like sum.

The sureties must have properties in Maitama District of Abuja and produce titles of the properties.

Emefiele who was ordered to submit his travel documents with the court’s Registrar and restricted to Abuja throughout the duration of the trial, was remanded at the Kuje Prison/ Correctional Centre pending when his bail conditions will be met.

Earlier, a prosecution witness, a top official of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), had testified at the resumed hearing on Tuesday that Emefiele was not the owner or shareholder of April 1616 Investment Limited, the company awarded the N1.2 billion vehicle supply contract by the CBN under Emefiele’s leadership.

The witness, whose name was not revealed in court, presented several documents detailing how the company was formed on August 1, 2016.

He also read out the names of the company’s shareholders, including Aminu Yaro, Maryam Abdullahi, and Saadatu Yaro, as joint owners of the entity.

Meanwhile, the court has adjourned the trial to January 18 and January 19, 2024.(agency)/SHARE THIS
