Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly cautioned the citizens of Edo State against voting for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the upcoming governorship election, saying that a vote for APC is a vote for poverty, despair, hunger and anything sorrowful.
In a statement shared on his X handle on Wednesday, titled “The Clear Choice for a Prosperous Edo State,” Atiku stressed that APC has abandoned its responsibility to the people, leaving Nigerians to suffer the consequences of their policies.
“As the good citizens of Edo State prepare to make their voices heard this Saturday, the 21st of September, 2024, let us reflect on the immense power within our grasp,” Atiku said, urging voters to use their vote as a tool for change and liberation from bad governance. He accused APC of presenting a façade of being pro-people, only to pursue self-serving goals behind closed doors.
Atiku criticized APC for plunging Nigeria into poverty, insecurity, and despair, noting that even basic needs like food have become unaffordable for millions of Nigerians. He added that APC has betrayed the trust of the people and ignored the cries of the common man.
“In this grim reality, our people are not dying of disease but of hunger. We stand at the lowest point in our nation’s governance. The APC has not served the people; they have served themselves,” he remarked.
Atiku offered a ray of hope in Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Describing Ighodalo as a man of integrity, competence and vision, Atiku encouraged Edo voters to elect him as a path to redemption for the state.
“Your vote for Ighodalo will not only bring change to Edo State but will also send a resounding message across Nigeria that we reject the deceit and self-serving ways of the APC,” Atiku said.
He also highlighted the struggles of Nigerians under APC leadership, pointing out their hypocrisy in criticizing past fuel price hikes, only to now preside over a regime where fuel costs exceed N1,000 per litre in some states of Nigeria. Atiku called on Edo voters to reject the APC’s empty promises and not allow the continuation of suffering and hardship.
“It is a choice to consolidate the good work of Governor Godwin Obaseki and to build a future of prosperity, dignity, and hope,” Atiku concluded, urging citizens to use their votes wisely on Saturday, September 21st, 2024, to bring about the much-needed change in Edo State.
Atiku’s passionate message to the people of Edo State serves as a rallying cry for a shift from what he described as years of betrayal under APC rule to a future of progress and integrity under PDP’s leadership.///
