The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and immediate- past Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has opened up on the feud between him and his successor, Rivers State Governor, Simi Fubara, saying that ingrates put him off.
Wike said one would not truly know a man until given power and money.
Speaking in a media chat with TVC News, Wike said he was instrumental to Fubara’s emergence as governor and had even laid the foundation for his second term by asking him to continue the Ring Road project he inaugurated.
“Let me tell you, I don’t like ingrates; I can’t stand them. What is happening now is what Odili said in his book: ‘Give a man power and money, then you will know the person.’
“If you haven’t given a man power and money, then you don’t know the person. However, I’m not worried because I’m a politician. I know what other states are suffering because of debt, but go and check if I left liabilities; the records are there.
“I left projects for him to commission so he would showcase during his hundred days, then politics came in. We are just starting; God gave you something; you are now importing crisis.
“God gave this on the platter of gold; the Federal Government is not fighting you, no crisis, but you are the one now trying to create a crisis for yourself; only those who are natural ingrates will support what is happening there. I use the instrumentality of law to fight thugs, time will come.”
Wike further alleged that Fubara sent people to burn the state House of Assembly in an attempt to stop his impeachment. He questioned the rationale behind this action, noting that the impeachment process takes time.
He added that the reason he is keeping calm is because he respects President Tinubu and won’t want to disobey Tinubu’s order.
He said: “We never knew that it will take you three months to scatter the political structure that picked you up. What is painful is seeing these propaganda and lies that I was angry. Did he (Fubara) buy form? Be grateful in your life in all circumstances.
“I will not allow anybody to crumble our political structure. I told him if you do this ring-road your second tenure would be assured, I took him to Germany to meet Julius Berger and they promised to do the road in three years which is the year leading to election. I told him if you do this road nobody will challenge you in Rivers State.
“Anything that will make me disrespect Mr President, count me out, he disobeyed the President, disobeyed the Vice President. When the law speaks, thuggery, militancy, and ethnicity will run away.”
Wike’s comments come against the backdrop of a simmering political crisis in Rivers State. The crisis comes just months after the inauguration of Fubara as governor on May 29./SHARE THIS
