A group of United States-based pro-democracy organisations, the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law, along with the Ekwenche Research Institute has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, to ensure that his “Patriotic Citizen’s Inquest” into President Tinubu’s academic records at Chicago State University (CSU) is pursued to its conclusion in US Courts.
Their call comes in a joint statement amidst discrepancies, contradictions, and alterations in the officially released academic records of Tinubu.
This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen by International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law, through its Board Chairman, Emeka Umeagbalasi and Prof Justin Akujieze, its staunch board member.
This is even as Tinubu’s spokesman during the February 25, 2023 presidential election and now Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, is already boasting that Supreme of Nigeria will exonerate Tinubu of the certificate forgery in any circumstance.
The group emphasized that regardless of the outcome of Nigeria’s Supreme Court decisions in November 2023, a judicially-established case of forgery or perjury against President Tinubu in US Courts would lead to his removal as “Nigeria’s President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.”
The call for a judicial resolution is rooted in the controversies, ethno-religious divisions, and the country’s tarnished international image that have arisen, which have cast a shadow over the current Nigerian government, they emphasised.
According to the statement, “The US Courts will examine the accuracy of Tinubu’s CSU academic records, including claims about his graduation from Lagos King’s College in 1970, as well as other academic transcripts, diploma and degree certificates, endorsements, and the identities of certificate bearers.”
“Atiku’s ‘Patriotic Citizen’s Inquest’ follows in the footsteps of the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, SAN, who previously raised questions about Tinubu’s educational history.
“It is vital that this matter is pursued to a thorough conclusion, free from political or religious affiliations, to maintain transparency and uphold the rule of law”, the statement added.
According to the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, “anyone who has taken time to do a thorough reading of the deposition will come to the unambiguous conclusion that the footprints of Tinubu’s odyssey as far as the CSU documents are concerned is filled with profound forgeries and abuse of administrative due process.
“Tinubu’s supporters and spin doctors will want to force the narrative of, at least, ‘Tinubu graduated from the CSU down our throat,’ even when the narrative has no foothold in logic.
But reacting to Atiku’s insistence of forgery allegations against the President, Tinubu’s presidential campaign spokesman and now the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, said the Supreme Court of Nigeria will find President Tinubu not guilty of certificate forgery, adding that until the vendor who issued a replacement certificate to President Tinubu denies the document, there is no case against him.
Keyamo stated this in a long tweet posted on X yesterday. Addressing the controversies over CSU records, Keyamo insisted that “you cannot allege or prove forgery except the purported maker of the document denies its authenticity.”
He wrote: “When some comments or perception of otherwise plain and simple issues are so moronic, mischievous or downright odious, they really do not deserve a response because you’d be dignifying idiocy. But let me drop this here for posterity:
“I have been a defence and prosecution lawyer at the highest level in criminal trials for more than 30 years. You cannot allege or prove forgery except the purported maker of the document denied its authenticity or there is uncontradicted evidence of a forensic report that categorically says the document was deliberately altered or concocted by the person who uttered (in a legal sense) or issued it./SHARE THIS
