New Senate President Godswill Akpabio, on Tuesday, shortly after his inauguration, said though the 10th National Assembly will not be a rubber stamp Senate, it will partner with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to make Nigerians laugh at last.
Akpabio said the National Assembly would provide the required legislative framework and legal environment for the President to anchor his policies and programmes for the country.
He said the Senate would be for all while pledging to operate on the principle of Servant Leadership and Uncommon Leadership.
Akpabio made this assertion in his acceptance and inaugural address to Senators after he was elected as the President of the 10th Senate in Abuja.
He extended hands of fellowship to his opponent during the contest for the position as well as lawmakers who had divergent views on who should emerge as President of the Senate.
Akpabio said: “I am pleased, as I am sure that you too are, that we have in His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, a President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who is committed to a strong economy, national security, inclusion and the rule of law.
“The antecedents of Mr President and his actions in office these past two weeks give not just a pointer but bear witness to an executive government that knows the challenges of the country and is in a hurry to resolve same,” he said.
He added: “We should, therefore, anticipate an executive that is pro-active, progressive and practical. Our laws must therefore, align with the vision of Mr. President to protect and provide for our people at the innermost core of their essence while our actions must also guarantee the best and most efficient use of our national commonwealth.”(agency)/SHARE THIS
