Despite calls from all corners for his removal and arrest as apex bank governor, on alleged account of terrorism financing and hardship precipitated by the CBN Naira Redesign policy, the outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari has showered last-minute appreciation to CBN Gov Godwin Emefiele for being a responsive apex bank governor in his eight-year administration, giving him 3rd highest national honour of CFR, and confirming the belief the CBN Governor was all along acting out the script of his principal.

This was contained in a list of 2023 special National Honour Awards recipients issued by the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs on Sunday, May 28, 2023.

Emefiele whose  CBN-led Naira redesign policy was pooh-poohed for bringing severe hardship on Nigerians was awarded the 3rd highest national honour of the

Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR).

He became the CBN governor in 2014 after the suspension of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi by former President Goodluck Jonathan, and remained as constant as the northern star despite all manner of troubles most of which called for his removal and arrest throughout President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight-year tenure.

In a similar vein, a former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Emeka Anyaoku was conferred with the 2nd highest honour of the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, among others./SHARE THIS
