The presidential Election Petition Court has throw forward the hearing of the petition submitted by Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate till Wednesday, May 11, 2023.
Disclosing this, Monday, May 8, via his Twitter page, the party’s presidential campaign council spokesman, Kenneth Okonkwo, said: “After a brief pre-hearing trial, the case was adjourned to Wednesday, 10th May, 2023, at 2 pm prompt. With me is Alex Ejesieme SAN.”
Equally, the court had adjourned the hearing of the petitions filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar and the Allied Peoples Movement.
Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission had declared Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress as the winner of the February 25 presidential election, prompting a groundswell of litigations on the grounds of running foul of the Electoral Law and INEC guidelines.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), Action Alliance (AA), Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and Action Peoples Party (APP), among others, had filed petitions to challenge Tinubu’s victory.
The APM had adopted Atiku as its candidate ahead of the presidential election, prompting its candidate, Princess ChiChi Ojei, to describe her party’s action as despicable and a setback for Nigerian women.
However, the presiding chairman of the tribunal, Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani, on Monday put forward the hearing of their petitions to Tuesday.
Equally, the Tribunal on Monday struck out the petition by the Action Alliance (AA) challenging the declaration of Tinubu as the winner of the presidential election.
The Action Alliance (AA) had earlier withdrawn its petition at the Presidential Election Petition Court sitting in Abuja, prompting the dismissal.
The party withdrew the case at the commencement of the pre-hearing of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on Monday, May 8, 2023, in Abuja, giving no reason for the withdrawal.
The withdrawal means that out of the five political parties and their candidates challenging the outcome of the February 25 presidential election on grounds of non-compliance with the electoral laws and guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), only 4 are left./SHARE THIS
