A reported case of deadly Tuberculosis has hit the detention headquarters of the Directorate of State Services (DSS) in Abuja infecting many of the detainees, The State Online sources have squealed.
Revealing this in Abuja within the week, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, told his lawyers who paid him a routine visit on Thursday, April 20, that so far, many detainees have tested positive to the killer disease, even as it continues to fester. Kanu said he, himself, has come under an episode of profuse nose-bleeding, with the security agency not doing anything about it.
According to Kanu, the outbreak began since the DSS had, during the week, transferred a detainee diagnosed with tuberculosis to his cell block.
Kanu hoped that, with the outbreak, Nigerian government would alert the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Red Cross to intervene before it becomes a pandemic inside the DSS.

His Special Counsel, Bar Aloy Ejimakor, who made this public via a tweet, Thursday, said: “I visited #MNK today (April 20, 2023) in the company of Prince Emma Kanu and one of his other lawyers. Onyendu (Mazi Nnamdi Kanu) directed that I extend his profound condolences to Mrs. Rachel Nwosu on the demise of her gallant husband.
“He disclosed that numerous detainees at DSS have now tested positive to Tuberculosis. He hopes the Nigerian government would alert the WHO & Red Cross to intervene before it becomes a pandemic inside the DSS.
“Onyendu’s poor health persists and he is still not getting the required care. While I was with him, I observed his noticeable discomfort, malaise and general ill- health. He salutes all who remain faithful & steadfast.”
Earlier on Monday, April 17, Ejimakor had also tweeted on a routine visit to Kanu during which he told of his episode of profuse nose-bleeding.
Tweeted Ejimakor: “Today, my associate, Barr Mandela met with Onyendu #MNK at DSS. He reports that MNK directed him to make it public that he had an episode of profuse nose-bleeding yesterday & that the DSS has transferred a detainee diagnosed with tuberculosis to his cell block. This is ominous.”
Medical description of Tuberculosis (TB) is a serious illness that mainly affects the lungs. The germs that cause tuberculosis are a type of bacteria.
Tuberculosis can spread when a person with the illness coughs, sneezes or sings. This can put tiny droplets with the germs into the air. Another person can then breathe in the droplets, and the germs enter the lungs.
Tuberculosis spreads easily where people gather in crowds or where people live in crowded conditions. People with HIV/AIDS and other people with weakened immune systems have a higher risk of catching tuberculosis than people with typical immune systems./SHARE THIS
