Human rights lawyer and counsel to Biafran agitators, Sir Ifeanyi-Okite Ejiofor, Esq., has praised what he described as a tremendous ruling by the Abia State High Court in Umuahia, which discharged and acquitted five Biafran agitators who had been detained since their arrest on July 20, 2022.
Ejiofor expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision, noting that the accused, who faced charges of conspiracy, unlawful possession of firearms, and membership of an unlawful society under Charge No: HU/61C/2022, were cleared of all allegations.
Presiding judge, Justice A.O. Chijioke, delivered the judgment, discharging and acquitting the accused for lack of concrete evidence from the prosecution and in pursuit of fairness and the rule of law.
The ruling followed the prosecution’s presentation of three witnesses, whose arguments were dismantled by the defense team’s meticulous legal strategy.
According to Ejiofor, “The acquittal of the accused persons serves as a monumental example of the dedication, professionalism, and strength of character of my legal team, comprising Dennison Agu, Esq., and Head of Chambers, Chinwe Umeche, Esq.”
He praised the defense team for their precision and commitment, stating that their efforts have renewed hope for justice for those wrongfully accused.
“This case reinforces the universal principle that true freedom requires the rule of law and a judicial system where the rights of some are not secured by denying the rights of others,” Ejiofor remarked.
He emphasized that the legal victory not only protected the rights of the clients but also upheld core values of justice and human rights advocacy.
“This is an incredible victory and a beacon of hope for justice and fairness in the fight for the freedom of innocent detainees,” Ejiofor stated in a heartfelt message following the ruling.
