A group, the Athena Centre for Policy and Leadership, has officially submitted a Freedom of Information request to INEC for critical data related to the recently-concluded Edo State gubernatorial election, held on September 21, 2024.
In the FOI request signed by Aliyu Jalal, its Publications and Media Advisor, the group said: “Our request specifically seeks accreditation data from the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the official collation forms (EC8Bs, EC8Cs, and EC8Ds) used across polling units, wards, and Local Government Areas.
“We will not express opinions or conclusions regarding the Edo election until we thoroughly review the data. Our proprietary process is meticulous and based on evidence. We are committed to conducting a detailed post-election audit to enlighten Nigerians and proffer legislative and administrative recommendations to enhance and ensure the integrity of the electoral process,” Jalal said, adding that “we encourage all citizens to remain calm and patient as we embark on the tedious and detailed review of the Edo election. If there are any irregularities or infractions, our review uncover them.
Continuing, he said: “the Athena Centre’s mission is to ensure transparency and accountability are central to the electoral process. As a think tank dedicated to using evidence to guide policy and improve governance, we assure Nigerians of our commitment to promoting credible elections and enhancing democratic processes through evidence-based analysis.”///
