The Tin-Can Island command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) announced on Tuesday that it generated a whopping N716 billion from goods imported into the country in 2023.

Providing details of activities in 2023 and outlining the target for 2024 in Lagos, the Command’s Customs Area Controller, Compt. Dera Nnadi, stated that the command has set a revenue target of N1.130 trillion for 2024.

To meet this target, the command aims to generate over N94 billion every week, he said.

Comptroller Nnadi expressed confidence in achieving the set target, noting that 2024 is dubbed the “year of stakeholders.”

He said: “In all, the command is expected to generate a total of N1.130 trillion, equivalent to N94.230 million daily, with a weekly target of N21.666 billion.”

Analysing the performance of the previous year, he maintained that the deployment of capacity building for officers and stakeholders is a crucial tool in achieving the command’s mandate.

He also noted that the use of ICT helped optimise efficiency in the previous year, with plans to apply more of the system for better efficiency in the new year.

Compt. Nnadi also added that 24-hour and weekend port operations were implemented in the previous year.

He commended the officers of the command and stakeholders for their cooperation in generating the substantial sum in 2023.

Looking ahead, he declared 2024 as the “year of stakeholders in Tincan Island,” while stressing a decisive approach towards those unwilling to change.

He called on Nigerians to encourage export of goods which, according to him, is the survival of the economy of the nation.

He disclosed further that aside revenue collection, the command is poised to prioritise stakeholders engagement and regular sensitization exercise to promote trade facilitation, while giving kudos to the CGC for support in providing enabling environment./PLEASE SHARE
